Welcome to Improv Comedy Meetup!
Are you an experienced improviser? Or watched Whose Line Is It Anyway and wondered, How do they do that?
Either way, you're welcome here.
Improv is a joyful way to learn, connect, and tickle your creativity. We'll play classic and newer theater games and come up with stories and scenes without a script.
Our events are playful and also instructional. Here's where you learn the principles and paradoxes of good comedy improv: What makes it work (working less). What makes it funny (not trying to be funny). What makes you look good (not brilliance but listening and being fun to play with).
What to expect:
Most sessions are structured like a class:
- Brief intros
- A little stretching / breathing
- One or two easy, silly warm-ups
- Intro to a game, story or scene type we'll do
- Game/Story /scene with possible side-coaching and participant reflection. Usually everyone gets a chance to play.
- Depending on time, do another game or two.
- Closing with brief reflection, ideas for future sessions...
We emphasize experiencing over discussing, though there's some instruction, gentle coaching, and feedback for and from participants. All positive.
So join us! And keep coming back — the more you do, the more hilarity you'll have. You'll also find improv principles creeping into (and improving) your life!
