Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Read "Into Thin Air" - Then Hike @ Ft. BenFort Harrison State Park - Reddick Shelter, Indianapolis, IN
Let's Read -> Then... Hike (FIRST TIME)
*Seeing if there's any interest in a Meetup like this, Pls RSVP if you begin reading and plan to attend. (Exact date could change depending on weather and/or personal schedule)Our Sunday Ft Ben group has been talking a lot about a possible EBC (Everest Base Camp) trip, so let's start by reading Into Thin Air (about Everest) .
- Click to view a synopsis of Into Thin Air on Amazon or copy this link: https://www.amazon.com/Into-Thin-Air-Personal-Disaster/dp/0385494785/THE PLAN: is to read and then discuss the book for all or part of a hike.
Tentative hike date: July 20, @ 4.10 PM @ Ft. Ben
- Since this is our first try on a semi-book-club, I've allowed a lot of time for us to get the book from a library or buy a new/used copy online, with plenty of time to read.Distance & Pace: The distance will be between 4.5 to 6 miles. I'm not 100% sure of our pace, but for casual conversation, I'm thinking it would probably be between 20 to 23min per mile.
BRING: Water (maybe sunscreen, hat etc., most of the trails have moderate tree coverage)
THE NEXT BOOK (tentative date of Aug 17, 2025):
- In case you like to plan ahead, the book will be A Walk in the Park (about hiking the Grand Canyon going the long way, not rim-to-rim).
- Click to view a synopsis of A Walk in the Park on Amazon - or copy/paste this url: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1501183052/
