Book Club Theme: Refining the Ego

‘Once refined, it can be a powerful tool in our hands. That is the underlying belief behind this attempt at refining the ego.’

From the book Vedanta in Practice – Spiritual Unfoldment, lectures of Pravrajika Ajayaprana.

## Discussion Themes:

  • 5 KOSHAS: We explore those layers (sheaths) that comprise our gross and subtle bodies, from the physical to the soul.
  • EGO: ONLY A REFLECTION: What can be more real than our sense of ‘I ’ness, our ego? How identified we are with it, and yet, according to Vedanta, the ego is a non-entity, a mere reflection.
  • NEED TO RECONNECT: For the baby the world’s a homogenous place to which the baby is connected almost seamlessly. Gradually, unavoidably (a little sadly?), as we grow we lose the baby’s sense of oneness. So it is that we have a fundamental need to reconnect, to overcome that sense of separateness, to regain what we lost.

Pravrajika Ajayaprana, the late Vice-President of Sri Sarada Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission established the first foreign Centre of Sri Sarada Math in Sydney in 1982, returning to India in 2011.
In her lectures and writings, she drew on her vast knowledge, extensive reading, and life experiences to relate ancient Vedantic teachings to everyday life.

We look forward to exploring articles by our founding president, Rev Pravrajika Ajayaprana Mataji, and articles by other notable figures in the Vedanta movement.

Join our Vedanta Society members in exploring the deeper side of life.

The format will include a PowerPoint Presentation with slide-by-slide segments of the article, a discussion led by Pravrajika Sridharaprana.
