[Potluck Dinner] Peter Adamson – Philosophy in the Islamic World
Details
Dear all,
Join us for a dedicated bookclub focusing on Islamic philosophy and Sufism in dialogue with contemporary Muslim, Western, and global thought.
This session is particularly special, as it coincides with the month of Ramadan. We'll be hosting this session as a potluck dinner (Iftar): each person brings food that we'll all share together. Of course, Muslims as well as non-Muslims are equally welcome.
This session's reading is Philosophy in the Islamic World: A Very Short Introduction by Peter Adamson. In this introductory text, Adamson Adamson explores the history of philosophy among Muslims, Jews, and Christians living in Islamic lands, from its historical background to thinkers in the twentieth century.
You can purchase the book physically or digitally through Amazon (link). A PDF version is also available here. https://fenix.letras.ulisboa.pt/downloadFile/2533382164578437/Philosophy%20in%20the%20Islamic%20World%20A%20Very%20Short%20Introduction%20(Adamson,%20Peter)%20(Z-Librar.pdf
Those who are more comfortable reading in German can read the equivalent book Islamische Philosophie by Ulrich Rudolph, which can also be purchased on Ex Libris (link).
We will meet at the GZ Höngg community center. The description will soon be updated to include the total cost for reserving the venue, which we'll split across everyone attending.
We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming session. Please reach out to any of the organizers if you have any questions.
