How do you recognize an open source maintainer in a theme park? They review pull requests on the roller coaster!
Being an open source maintainer is really hard! People expect so much from you: responding to issues, reviewing pull requests, fixing security vulnerabilities, and keeping the project up to date with the latest dependencies. All on top of your regular job!
In this talk, I will debunk some myths about real OSS maintainership, funding, and community management. I will share my personal experiences, the good and the bad, so that you can decide if it's the sort of thing you want to get involved in.
