Book Group Meeting - Saturday November 8 - Free Thinkers - Jefferson Humanists
Details
Join FROG, the Free thinkers Reading Opportunity Group, for the Saturday November 8 book group meeting from 2-3:30 PM.
In November we'll be discussing When we Cease to Understand the World by Benjamin Labatut.
Adapted from Goodreads:
One of The New York Times Book Review ’s 10 Best Books of 2021! A fictional examination of the lives of real-life scientists and thinkers whose discoveries resulted in moral consequences beyond their imagining. This book is about the complicated links between scientific and mathematical discovery, madness, and destruction. Fritz Haber, Alexander Grothendieck, Werner Heisenberg, Erwin Schrödinger—these are some of the luminaries into whose troubled lives Labatut thrusts the reader, showing us how they grappled with the most profound questions of existence. They have strokes of unparalleled genius, alienate friends and lovers, descend into isolation and insanity. Some of their discoveries reshape human life for the better; others pave the way to chaos and unimaginable suffering. The lines are never clear.
Location: We meet in the Mills Building. The Mills Building is a separate building behind the Jefferson Unitarian Church (no affiliation), at 14350 W. 32nd Ave. Enter the parking lot and head to the back left (southeast) corner of the lot. Use the walkway between the church and the Mills Bldg to enter the Mills Bldg (on your left), and walk straight down the hallway to our room.
