In February, we invite you to read two short stories: "Unplaces: An Atlas of Non-existence" by Izzy Wasserstein and "The Scale of Defiance" by Nina Niskanen.

Unplaces: An Atlas of Non-existence (7 pages)
In the near future, America has been seized by a totalitarian regime. While hiding out from fascist gangs, a young, queer, Jewish woman in Kansas City writes notes in an encyclopedia of imaginary places, hoping the book will live on to tell her story.

The Scale of Defiance (10 pages)
Nina Niskanen's "The Scale of Defiance" is set in a world where a person's emotional state literally determines their size at any given moment. The author captures how hate and fear can make one feel too small to make a difference, until a simple act gives them the strength to grow. From "Recognize Fascism: A Science Fiction and Fantasy Anthlogy." (See https://www.world-weaver-press.com/store/p9/Recognize_Fascism.html

You can find an online copy of “Unplaces: An Atlas of Non-existence” at https://clarkesworldmagazine.com/wasserstein_03_18/

Those who RSVP will be sent a copy of "The Scale of Definance" to read for the discussion. You can also find an ebook copy available from the Jefferson County Public Library.

Please read these stories on your own and come
to the meeting on February 26th to share your thoughts.

RSVP to this Meetup or email SciFi@jeffersonhumanists.org. Only those who RSVP will receive the Zoom link for the discussion. Attendance is limited to the first 15 people who RSVP.
