We are a branch of Tenshinshō-den Katori Shintō-ryū, training under the Shinbukan Dōjō in Narita, Japan, one of Japan’s oldest classical martial traditions (koryū bujutsu), preserving techniques passed down for over five centuries.

Our group welcomes individuals with a sincere interest in traditional martial arts and a commitment to long-term, disciplined study. Training is non-commercial — fees are minimal, the first week is free, and parking is available. Sessions are held every Sunday, except NSW public holidays.

To start, all you need is comfortable clothing, better if it is a keikogi and hakama. Equipment is provided for beginners, and guidance will be given later if you continue training seriously.

Practice begins with kenjutsu using the bokutō (wooden sword) and progresses to iaijutsu (using a iaitō). Later we also study (staff) and naginata (glaive). After several years, practitioners may train in nitō-ryū (dual swords), kodachi (short sword), yari (spear), and other parts of the curriculum.

Please note: the Meetup member count does not reflect actual attendance — our core group is small, dedicated, and focused on authentic training.
