What we’re about
This is a group for anyone interested in paddling ( Kayak , Canoe or other ) and learning more about the local wildlife and the environment in this area. Beginners are welcome. Paddling is really the only way to get close to the fauna and flora, on the water, without destroying it. We have no other agenda other than to paddle and enjoy nature. Helen and I are both Florida Master Naturalists, This is our hobby. We also lead outings for the Sierra Club of Greater Charlotte Harbor as posted here, from time to time. We also participate in surveys and water clean up by various organizations
It cost nothing to join or participate in our events.
Thank you for joining our club.

Dark Moon Comet Watch from Hickory Island !
Big Hickory Island, Bonita Springs, FL, USThe crescent beach is there for launching, I am hoping for calm winds to make this easier. This is a Day into night paddle you will need Lights. If it is nice we will float in the boats if it is bumpy we will haul out on the beach. The comets are in the West near the sun as it sets. The meteor's in the SE by Orion.
- Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon): This comet will be closest to Earth on October 21, 2025, and may be visible to the naked eye. It is expected to brighten significantly during this period, making it a prime target for skywatchers. 2
- Comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN): This comet will also be visible around October 20-21, 2025, and is expected to brighten during this time, potentially reaching naked-eye visibility. 2
Both comets are part of a rare celestial display, coinciding with the peak of the Orionid meteor shower on October 21-22, 2025.
