Dark Moon Comet Watch from Hickory Island !
Details
The crescent beach is there for launching, I am hoping for calm winds to make this easier. This is a Day into night paddle you will need Lights. If it is nice we will float in the boats if it is bumpy we will haul out on the beach. The comets are in the West near the sun as it sets. The meteor's in the SE by Orion.
- Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon): This comet will be closest to Earth on October 21, 2025, and may be visible to the naked eye. It is expected to brighten significantly during this period, making it a prime target for skywatchers. 2
- Comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN): This comet will also be visible around October 20-21, 2025, and is expected to brighten during this time, potentially reaching naked-eye visibility. 2
Both comets are part of a rare celestial display, coinciding with the peak of the Orionid meteor shower on October 21-22, 2025.

- Bring snacks and drinks, your safety gear and a chair, don't forget the camera. I'm dipping my paddle at 6.30pm. This is a go back when you've had enough as the launch is right next to that big bridge that you can see from many locations. Tide will be low at 8.45 pm. Bring the BUG STUFF they are fierce here !!!
