What we’re about

Hello hiker!

Our hiking group is for nature lovers who would rather spend their time weekends in the great outdoors.

Happy When I'm Hiking is a volunteer club that connects people with nature to reduce stress, improve fitness, boost health, and inspire joy.

We’re also part of the Spirituality in Nature Group (SING) community that meet outdoors to deepen their connection to the Earth. These groups engage with nature's wisdom to foster a sense of wonder, connection, and responsibility to the planet through activities like hiking in nature and state parks, mindful walks, journaling, tree planting and social events in nature. SINGs can be open to anyone, with or without a specific faith tradition, and focus on experiencing the sacred resonance of the natural world.

We explore hidden gems around Melbourne, interstate, and even overseas! Through active participation, you’ll gain new experiences, build confidence, learn skills, and form amazing friendships.

Sound like your kind of tribe?

We welcome anyone over 18 who craves a meaningful connection to nature for fitness and mental well-being. Respect for the environment and each other, friendliness, generosity, and open-mindedness are essential to becoming a Happy Hiker. Our focus is on camaraderie on the trail and safety—plus, a good sense of humor is a must!

📝 Membership Requirements:

  1. Legal name (e.g., Susan J, Matt B—not usernames like Xxx123 or Aussie1)
  2. A recent clear photo of yourself (no sunglasses).
  3. All questions answered earnestly (e.g., “Yes” instead of “Y”)
  4. Confirmation that you’ve read and agree to the group rules.
  5. Membership is for one person only—no couples or group sign-ups
  6. Ambulance cover is mandatory to participate in outdoor activities

We offer hikes of varying difficulty levels, each designed to be fun and rewarding. Our events help relieve stress, encourage exercise, and offer a chance to unplug and enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature.

We keep our groups small to ensure comfort, respect for the environment, and a better experience for all. Large groups aren’t enjoyable for hikers or hosts. We also practice Leave No Trace (LNT) outdoor ethics.

Our hiking pace varies depending on terrain and weather, with safety, fitness, and enjoyment as our guiding principles.

Everyone’s limits are different, so we mix up the hike styles. Sometimes we push the pace, but we always take time to appreciate the surroundings and the company of fellow adventurers.

If our approach to hiking resonates with you, come join the adventure. We look forward to meeting you on the trail!
