Also for this event we have an Option A and an Option B hike. We start with Sam Hill and then work our way up to Bukit Gondol. There, Option A participants will descend towards the south while Option B participants will descend via the north side...

Option A participants will have to tackle a steep descent, following the high voltage power line - there is no canopy coverage for that section. We then veer to the right, passing the green lake after we leave the old rubber plantation, followed by a very steep ascent which will bring us back to the trail which is hiked by the Option B participants.

There is some minor scrambling involved and Option B participants have to deal with a short section with undergrowth.

Both options consist of a loop which will be hiked clockwise. The total distances are more than seven kilometres and less than six kilometres for A and B respectively.

For those who think that the entire loop will be a bit too much, there are options to take a shortcut if you consult your navigation app. However do note that there is no shortcut possible for the extra loop of Option A.

There is no space to park the car near the trailhead, so we park near the Sak Dato Temple in Broga and start with a short walk on the tarred road.
Be prepared for at least two to three hours effective hiking.

Some areas do not have any canopy coverage, so protect yourself properly against the elements.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, Maps.me, OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of Malaysia, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to prepare myself for navigation...?

Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of Malaysia at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Every week, we notice that too many hikers arrive just before the event starts and are absolutely not prepared which is jeopardising the scheduled timing of the event. Especially iPone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.

This is a self-guided hike. You will receive a gpx file at the trailhead and you will have to navigate yourself. There will be no paper markers. For those who are not familiar with gps navigation, you will be guided but still have to use your own navigation app on your phone.

By 01:00 pm all hikers should have reached the car park again.

Do note that the indicated meet-up time is not the time you should arrive at the meet-up location. It is the time that the hike effectively starts. The QR code for the gpx file can be scanned at the trailhead from 08:30 am onwards. You can start your hike at any time between 08:30 am and 09:00 am.
