KW Marxist Reading Group

A small, beginner friendly, non-sectarian reading and discussion group studying classical and contemporary Marxism in the Kitchener-Waterloo area.

Focus:

• Understanding how capitalism works through Marxist political economy
• Learning the foundations of Marxism and critical social theory
• Developing class analysis and materialist ways of understanding society and current issues

We’ll explore:

• Core texts by Marx, Engels, Lenin, Gramsci, Luxembourg, among others
• Contemporary Marxist perspectives
• Readings chosen collaboratively by the group

• Not affiliated with any political organization.
• Open to students, workers, and community members.
• Critical, non-dogmatic approach to history and theory – no idolization or blanket rejection of past socialist projects.

Discussion is text-focused, respectful, and oriented toward understanding rather than debate or recruitment.
