Details
Topic: Fructose, health and poorly-conducted science.
Speaker: Chris Forbes-Ewan
Chris Forbes-Ewan has more 25 years’ experience as a professional nutritionist with Defence Nutrition and Food Science (based in Scottsdale). In that time he has conducted extensive research, including: investigating the effects of different feeding regimens on health and military performance of members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF); evaluating the potential of nutritional ‘ergogenic aids’ (aids to physical performance) to enhance the military performance of special forces troops and infantry soldiers; and determining the nutritional requirements of ADF members across the range of military occupations; and setting nutritional standards for fresh feeding and for combat ration packs. Chris has represented Australia on various international expert Defence nutrition research groups and has also been an invited speaker at national and international nutrition-related conferences and symposia. He is Co-Chair of the Tasmanian Group of the Nutrition Society of Australia and Secretary of the Tasmanian Branch of the Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology. Chris has been a life-long sceptic (although he only recently joined the Australian Skeptics) and feels compelled to what he can to counter quackery or charlatanism whenever he encounters it in nutrition, his field of expertise.
