Tim Lin Quartet
Details
Tenor saxophonist Tim Lin and pianist Charles Chen, who impressed Bird & Beckett concertgoers when we saw them in a band there several years ago, return to the bookstore for what should be another strong show, this time joined by Nick Panoutsos on bass and Jason Tiemann on drums. When we saw Tim in January 2023, he was showcasing his acclaimed debut album. Now based in New York City, he is touring in support of his well-received third album. And I'm sure that Meetup regulars who have seen Charles on piano (as either a sideman or a leader of his own band) have strong memories of his highly energetic style on the keys!
EVENT COST: $1 donation to the Meetup organizer (that's me!), plus the $20 cover charge for the show, collected upon entry to the bookstore (no advance ticket sales). CASH only for the cover charge.
SEATING is general-admission, on folding chairs with cushions. (The musicians are on a slightly raised stage.) You may BYOB, but no food is allowed inside the store.
IMPORTANT: Concertgoers need to call Bird & Beckett at 415-586-3733 to request a seat for themselves. (You can mention that you're with Paula's Meetup group.) After you have heard back from the store that you have a reservation, please let me know.
WHEN/WHERE TO MEET: Unless joining me for the optional pre-show dinner, meet outside the bookstore by 7:15 p.m. Please allow extra time for transit or parking, since latecomers risk forfeiting their seats to other people in line. (The concert is scheduled to go from 7:30 p.m. to about 9:30 p.m.)
HOW TO FIND ME: See my photo with my Meetup profile. (I'm WF, 5 feet tall, with glasses and short, salt-and-pepper hair.) I'll send my cellphone number to RSVPers before the show.
TRANSIT/PARKING: The bookstore is located less than two blocks from the Glen Park BART station and Muni bus lines (and about one block from two ATMs) in an attractive commercial/residential neighborhood. Parking is on the street.
OPTIONAL PRE-SHOW DINNER at 6:00 p.m. at a Thai restaurant across the street from Glen Park BART station. The headcount for the dinner is limited to six people (with preference to Meetup members who don't have a habit of flaking out on their rsvps). I can accommodate additional people for the concert itself. When RSVPing for the concert, please indicate if you're interested in the dinner as well.
