Walk: Whitstable to Herne Bay πΆββοΈπΆββοΈ
Details
Join us for a sociable excursion to Whitstable in Kent. We will spend a couple of hours exploring Whitstable and then enjoy a 5-mile [8km] coastal walk from Whitstable to Herne Bay before travelling back to London from there.
Meet Thomas (the man wearing the brown hat in the photo) or Mark (who will be wearing an orange scarf) inside St Pancras International mainline train station in front of the National Rail ticket office at 9:45am. We will buy our train tickets (see details below) and leave the meeting place at about 10am to catch the 10:20am train, arriving at Whitstable at 11:40am. We will be taking a train operated by Southeastern Trains.
We will spend a couple of hours exploring Whitstable (Thomas has offered to provide an optional guided tour) and having lunch, before walking along the coast to Herne Bay. If we catch the 4:46pm train from Herne Bay we will arrive back at St Pancras International at 6:08pm.
Make sure you arrive with enough time to buy your travel ticket. You should buy a super off-peak day return ticket to Herne Bay, which costs Β£40.30. You may be able to get a ticket which is a third cheaper (Β£26.80) if you have a railcard or if you buy a ticket together with other attendees, provided that you travel back together and bring the correct amount in cash.
Unfortunately we cannot wait for latecomers as it is unfair on others to delay the trip. For this trip it would still be possible to join us in Whitstable if you miss the 10:20am train from St Pancras International and need to take a slightly later train, or if it is more convenient for you to leave from Victoria instead of St Pancras International. If you do either of these please make sure that you let us know as soon as possible.
There is no meetup charge for this event - just pay for your travel and food.
