What we’re about

Welcome to the Longmont Monthly Southern Potluck Dinners Meetup! Let's gather once a month to share in the Southern tradition of bringing together good food, drinks, and company. Whether you're a native Southerner missing a taste of home or just a fan of Southern cuisine, this group is for you. Join us for a night of eating, drinking, conversation, and celebrating our shared love for Southern culture. Bring a dish to share and come hungry! All are welcome!

The goal of this group is to end the plague of loneliness that's got us all down these days. We want to have regulars who become friends who become each others' emergency contacts and ask about each other's mommas.

FAQs:
- Where is it hosted?
We've been hosting from our home in old town Longmont, but we have some new hosts stepping up in 2025! With our goal of this to become a regular thing with consistent attendees, we'd love for others to open their homes (or yards when the weather is right) for potlucks in the future. For every event, we'll share the address two days prior to the event date.

- Do I have to be from the south to sign up?
Not at all! But you should come curious and open-minded. Your hosts have roots in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana.

- If we're coming as a couple, do we need to bring two dishes?
Nope, just make sure you bring enough for everyone to have a serving.

- What if I have a food allergy or dietary restrictions?
This is a diet-free event! However, we know there's legit reasons folks can't eat some things, so if you've got some hard-and-fast food rules, we encourage you to bring something you know you can eat and enjoy. We will absolutely not turn our noses up at vegan/vegetarian dishes, but we're also gonna have meat and other animal products -- all that matters is they're delicious!

- What if I have an emergency last minute and can't make it?
Life happens! Just make sure to let us know as soon as you can so we can make accommodations for not having your dish. However, please be aware that a no-show-no-call might very well get you uninvited to future suppers. Also, if you cancel more than once for any reason, maybe you're not ready for a supper club commitment and need to stop reserving a spot (or let us do it for you if you can't take the hint).

- What if I REALLY want to come, but don't know what to make?
Sign up, then shoot us a message for suggestions. If you can cook at all, we've got a shelf full of church, school, and community cookbooks full of recipes.

- Are kids welcome?
Right now at least, we're keeping it to adults. I'm sure your younguns are little angels, but we'd like everyone to just be able to focus on interaction and conversations with fellow adults.

- Will there be drinks?
Yup. Your generous hosts will provide a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. In the future, we may add that to the sign up in case one of you is a genius mixologist and wants to make everyone a yummy cocktail.

- Can I discuss [insert favorite divisive political topic or politician]?
Awe, come on! There's so much else going on in the world to talk about! However, do be aware that we're an inclusive, welcoming, LGBTQ+ household, and any bigotry will not be tolerated.

- Can I bring my guitar?
No.

- Can I bring my dog?
No. We love dogs! But for the same reason we want the kids to stay at home, we'd like you to leave your pups at home, too.

- Can I preach the good news of [insert religion] or sign everyone up for [multilevel marketing scheme]? That's not what this is about, so if you're here to sell your god(s) or your all-natural face cream/smoothie/supplements, think again.

- I sent you a message via Meetup and you never responded!
Whoops -- we're new to this platform and haven't figured it all of its quirks yet. If we miss your message (and it's not a question you want to post publicly), feel free to poke us to check our messages in the discussions section of the group page.
