Music with Unstrung Harp
Details
Based in Medford, New Jersey, Harp Unstrung is a music collective focusing on Americana, Bluegrass, the music of the Grateful Dead, and songs by artists on the fringe of the musical mainstream (including Townes Van Zandt, Randy Newman, Tom Waits, the Magnetic Fields, Blind Pilot, and Bright Eyes). The core of the group consists of Paul Galdi (bass) and Chad Jenkins (guitar and voice). The band explores the gap between the seeming impossibility of expression (beautifully articulated by Edward Gorey’s The Unstrung Harp) and the ubiquity of music’s presence (captured in the lyrics of “Ripple,” written by Robert Hunter for the Dead). In short, beauty depends on the risk of failure.
