Neural Operators & AI in the Cloud

Details

The MLAI Meetup is a community for AI researchers and professionals which hosts monthly talks on exciting research.

This month we are proud to announce a collaboration with the Natural Velocity Innovation Centre, a Machine Learning focused Co-working community just kicking off now. We are not at the usual venue, instead we will be meeting at Level 1, Tenancy F01, 432 - 446 Docklands Drive, Docklands VIC 3008 which Natural Velocity was kind enough to allow us to use free of charge.

  • 7:40 - 8:00 Networking
  • 8:00: Head to the nearest pub for dinner

Speaker 1: Dylan Lynton
Talk Topic: Neural Operators: Fourier, Physics, and Hype that Delivers

Abstract: Neural operators are a family machine learning techniques that have started to gain momentum in the last few years. With the Fourier Neural Operator paper published in 2022 by Li et. Al, a lot of previously infeasible applications in computational physics suddenly seemed possible. Inverse modelling, one shot super resolution, exhaustive scenario ensemble runs.

In this talk, we’ll be going over the recent history of neural operators, how they do what they do, what applications they provide value (or don’t) and some of the open problems and future directions in the field.

Speaker Bio:
Dylan is a Machine Learning Engineer who recently joined Amber Electric, a startup in the energy sector with a focus on renewable energy retailing. Before this, he was a data scientist for the CSIRO’s climate science centre working on problems involving support modelling and observation teams in atmospheric science.

Speaker 2: Craig Lawton
Talk Topic: AI in the Cloud

Speaker Bio:
Craig has over 20 years of experience guiding top companies and government agencies into the future. Craig saw the revolutionary potential of the cloud early on. His popular blog, coffeescroll.com, showed the way for widespread cloud adoption. Craig has led teams of elite data science, research and modernization specialists at AWS, trusted by organizations across the region. He has spoken at prestigious events like the World Cities Summit and AWS re:Invent on generative AI, data science, smart cities, high-performance computing and more.
