What we’re about
Hi there!
Welcome, it's great to have you!
MTF is a community driven annual series of events culminating in an exhibition and showcase in September and October 2025.
Check out our website
This group is so that we can keep the community going all year round!
You should join this Meet-Up if you would like to be notified and be able to RSVP to the upcoming socials, panels, events, meet-ups, conferences, and many more!
Please note that Manchester Tech Festival is an inclusive environment and we prioritise positivity, compassion, community values and gentleness. We are not a salesy/business networking group, rather a group of like minded tech professionals in the city that want something a bit different.
We particularly welcome new people to the city, new people to tech, and new people to the group.
For any questions, please email amy@manchestertechfestival.co.uk

In an era where digital content is just a click away, the question of who holds responsibility for protecting children online has never been more urgent. With the mental health of young people increasingly impacted by the content they consume—and the lines between entertainment, influence and harm becoming ever more blurred—this timely debate brings the issue into sharp focus.
From the widespread reach of misogynistic content, highlighted in documentaries such as Netflix’s Adolescence, to eye-opening experiments like Channel 4’s Swiped: The School That Banned Smartphones, it’s clear that technology is shaping the minds and futures of the next generation in powerful—and potentially dangerous—ways.
In 2023, the UK government passed the Online Safety Act, placing legal obligations on tech companies to protect users from harm. Now, in 2025, OFCOM has enforced over 40 concrete safety measures, including stringent age checks and content filtering algorithms. But the big questions remain:
Are these measures enough? And who should ultimately carry the burden of responsibility—tech companies, government, schools, or parents?
In this thought-provoking debate, we bring together four leading voices from the world of technology, digital policy and online safety to explore the future of online protection. Expect bold opinions, expert insight, and an open dialogue on the real challenges and responsibilities behind keeping children safe in a digital world.
Please book a ticket through our Manchester Tech Festival website link.
RSVPing with Meetup does not count as a booked ticket.
For the past 3 years we have solely used meetup to sign people up for our events. However, the event venues we use require us to secure full names and email addresses so we can issue tickets for security reasons. Sadly meetup doesn't allow us to do this. That's why we now require guests to sign up to our events through our website. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you at the event!
