I've done the 42km event several times - I like this event because it's centrally-located, it's well-organised and they give you pancakes at the end :) Please note that you need to complete 8 laps for 42 km - some people might not like the repetitive nature of the route.
Cut-off time: 5.0 hours for 42 km, so you need a minimum pace of 7:07 minutes per km which essentially means jogging quite a bit. However, you can request to start 1.5 hours earlier, and if it is approved, your minimum pace can be 9:14 minutes per km. At this pace you can walk more and jog less. I always request for the early start - do note you will be running in the dark because the sun has not risen yet!
If you are preparing for your first marathon in October, the 30-km event is a good distance to add to your training preparation - you can request for an early start at 7am - which gives you 5 hours to complete the 30 km. So you need a minimum pace of 10 minutes per km.
For the 21 km event, you have 4 hours to complete it. So you need a minimum pace of 11:22 minutes per km.
Event fees are approximately $65 for 42km, $55 for 30km and $45 for 21km (please check the website to confirm)
