What we’re about
Meetup Bern follows the guidelines of Meetup.com ... "we believe that real-life community is really, really important. When people come together, they create new possibilities for each other. Ideas spread, networks form, movements start. At its simplest, life is just better when you have people to enjoy it with.
Meetup exists to help people grow into the people they want to be and live happy and fulfilling lives by finding the communities that will help them thrive."
Meetup Bern is an inclusive group where organizers create events that all members are welcome to attend. Some groups may have a size limit and in certain instances, such as hiking groups, a specific fitness level may be required to make the event a safe and enjoyable event.

=========================
Tonight's movie: Viaggio in Italia (English title Journey to Italy, also known as Voyage to Italy) is a 1954 drama film directed by Roberto Rossellini. Ingrid Bergman and George Sanders play Katherine and Alex Joyce, a childless English married couple on a trip to Italy whose marriage is on the point of collapse.Although the film was an Italian production, its dialogue was in English. The first theatrical release was in Italy under the title Viaggio in Italia and the dialogue had been dubbed into Italian. (Note from Shawn - this appears to be the version being shown by REX in this retrospective.)
Journey to Italy is considered by many to be Rossellini's masterpiece, as well as a seminal work of modernist cinema due to its loose storytelling.

Toastmasters has helped many people worldwide to improve their communication, public speaking, and many “soft skills“ including in management and leadership. Founded in the US in 1924, there are over 15,000 clubs worldwide in every continent, and hundreds of thousands of current members.
We normally start with prepared speeches (5-7 minutes each), followed by improvisations (1-2 minutes each). Speakers receive feedback from their evaluators. We occasionally have seminars, debates, and other spoken word activities.
After the meeting join us for a meal and conversation!
Evaluations are the way we help each other improve. Feedback themes include speech organisation, logic and transitions, ..., and delivery techniques like voice, body language, use of space and gestures; language points like filler words (hmm, uh, ...like..., so ...) and pauses. We emphasis good usage of language but don't make a fuss about grammar. So we work on improving our weak points and find our strengths, to improve our own individual public speaking styles.
If you are new to Toastmasters: we always welcome guests and we believe in learning by doing! Therefore, if you come for the first time, we encourage you to arrive at 18:45 so that we can immediately tell you how things run and help you participate. The official meeting starts at 19:00. You can start by improvising, or even by taking role.
