About us
This group is for anyone who has always wanted to take art lessons and finally decided to do so. After working in schools for the past 30 years, and with my new Diploma of Art Therapy, I have developed a unique teaching system that is more than just learning skills. I know the health benefits of living a creative life. I help people develop their creative side so they can use art-making to learn, grow, heal, make friends and find enjoyment.
In 2009, my husband of 22 years, lost his battle with Depression. My life was turned upside down in an instant! Art became invaluable to me while I grieved and by 2016 I was ready to launch Studio Yellow. I now share what I've learned personally (and professionally) with others because I really believe Art helps to make life worth living.
While everyone is welcome, I started Studio yellow to reach out to adults who feel they really need to start 'ART' from the very beginning. My classes combine everything I know about art materials and techniques with everything I have learnt about fostering creativity from the 100s of students I have taught during my career. As a fully qualified, registered Art teacher, I make every class relaxed and informative so you will learn how to enjoy the creative process in a completely non-judgemental atmosphere. With lots of personal attention, absolute beginners feel particularly supported.
You will meet people who have always had art in their heart, but have had little or no opportunity to learn how to do it. I also run sessions for those with some Art experience who are looking to reignite their confidence or work in a collaborative art space. Our members also meet up socially at Galleries and Exhibition openings and anywhere else that takes our fancy.
My classes are held in Manly West on Brisbane's beautiful bayside on weekdays and Saturdays !! I also offer Corporate workshops such as my '5 Steps to unlock Positive, Proactive and Productive teams'. A full list of classes and workshops are listed on my website (www.studioyellow.com.au).
I love changing lives for the better, through Art as I truly believe all Art is therapy. I urge you to nurture your mental health forever by starting a healthy hobby today!
I look forward to meeting you soon, Natalie

Splat ’n’ Chat: Project Power Session
Manly West Studio, Treetop Place, Manly west, Brisbane, AUThis is a SPECIAL One‑Off Creative Boost to help you achieve Your End‑of‑Year Goals
Saturday Afternoon • Studio Yellow, Manly West Proudly Supporting Queensland Mental Health Week
Feeling the pull to finish a creative project before the year wraps up? Have an idea you’ve been meaning to start — but life keeps getting in the way? Or maybe you just want clarity, direction, and a gentle nudge before the holiday season arrives.
This one‑off session, based on my regular ‘Splat ’n’ Chat’ sessions, is your chance to sit down, breathe out, and finally give your project the attention it deserves — with support, encouragement, and a relaxed creative vibe.
Bring any project you want to start, finish, or get advice on:
- a painting or drawing
- an art journal
- a collage or mixed‑media piece
- a handmade book
- a block‑printing idea
- a creative gift you want to make
- or simply a concept you want help shaping
You’ll have three peaceful hours to work at your own pace while enjoying the company of others who are also prioritising time for themselves. I’ll be there to offer guidance, suggestions, troubleshooting, and gentle motivation whenever you need it.
Think of it as quality “me time” with purpose — a chance to feel proud, organised, and creatively grounded before the end‑of‑year rush AND support a very worthy charity (see below).
Perfect for Brand‑New, Tentative Creatives
If you’re completely new to Studio Yellow—or even new to making art—this session is a wonderful, low‑pressure way to check out the space for the very first time.
You don’t need to bring a project if you’re unsure. Contact me via email before the day, and I can supply colouring‑in designs and coloured pencils so you can simply relax, play, and enjoy the creative atmosphere while getting comfortable in the studio.
No expectations. No pressure. Just a gentle introduction to creativity and community.
Supporting Queensland Mental Health Week
This special session is held in honour of Queensland Mental Health Week, celebrating connection, creativity, and wellbeing. As a widow (by suicide), I wanted to create a meaningful way to care for your own mental wellbeing while supporting others in the community.
To mark the occasion:
- A delicious afternoon tea is provided
- 50% of all proceeds will be donated to Lifeline
- A donation box will be available for anyone who wishes to contribute further to this much-needed service.

Hand-carved Block Printing on PAPER or FABRIC
Manly West Studio, Treetop Place, Manly west, Brisbane, AUEnjoy a Relaxing, Creative Weekend Workshop at Studio Yellow – Manly West, Brisbane
Discover a new way to practise mindfulness and creativity in this hands-on block printing workshop designed especially for beginners. Whether you’re completely new to printmaking or rediscovering ‘linocutting’ from your school days, this workshop will expand your creative skills.
I will guide you through the entire process of designing, carving, and printing your own original artwork.
You’ll learn how to turn any image — supplied on the day or brought from home — into a bold, high-contrast motif full of pattern and personality. I’ll guide you step by step from your initial idea through to your finished print, offering as much support or independence as you prefer. The focus and concentration required to carve your block is deeply calming, and the joy of printing multiple copies of your design is incredibly satisfying.
Block printing is wonderfully versatile and easy to continue at home. You don’t need a printing press or a large studio — just your carved block, a few simple tools, and a small workspace. The block you create in this workshop becomes a bespoke stamp you can reuse again and again to make fine art prints, greeting cards, wrapping paper, collage elements, and more.
⭐ Optional Fabric Printing Add-On
Once you’ve mastered printing on paper, you’ll also have the option to print your design onto fabric that you bring along (must be 100% cotton). This is a fantastic way to personalise tea towels, tote bags, clothing, pencil cases, or any textile you’d love to transform.
You’ll learn how to prepare your fabric, apply ink correctly, and achieve crisp, long-lasting prints. If you’ve attended my block printing workshop before, this is a wonderful way to extend your skills and explore new creative possibilities.
What You’ll Make
1. A hand-carved printing block (your choice of 11 × 11 cm square or 15 cm round)
2. Multiple prints on quality paper
3. Optional: beautifully printed fabric pieces you bring from home
4. A finished artwork ready to frame
5. The confidence and knowledge to continue block printing at homeWhat’s Included
1. Your double-sided carving block (to keep forever)
2. All printing materials, inks, tools, and equipment for use on the day
3. Step-by-step instructions and personalised guidance
4. Organisational tips and advice for setting up your home studio or teaching in a school setting
5. Tea/coffee and light snacks
6. Apron for use on the day
7. Relaxing music
8. Photos of your progress (shared upon request)
9. All cleanup taken care of for youWhat’s NOT Included
If interested, please bring your own plain, smooth 100% cotton fabric. Alternatively, bring $10 CASH to purchase a 50 x 70 blank white cotton tea towel on the day. Do not hesitate to contact me with questions about the suitability of what you want to bring along before the day.
This Workshop Is Perfect If You:
1. Are you a complete beginner wanting an enjoyable creative experience
2. Remember doing Linocut at school and want to reconnect with it
3. Already dabble in block printing and want to take your skills further
4. Want a relaxing, mindful way to spend a Saturday afternoon (consider signing up with a friend)
5. Value creative self care and time out from everyday stress
6. Love the idea of making personalised gifts or functional art
7. Want to explore printing on fabric as well as paperWhy You’ll Love Block Printing
Block printing encourages you to slow down, breathe, and carve away the parts that aren’t needed — just like in life. It’s calming, absorbing, and incredibly rewarding. You’ll leave with a sense of achievement, a beautiful handmade artwork, and a reusable block you can print with again and again.
