Papier-mâché (or Paper Mache, as it’s often spelled) is an easy and fun way to create durable 3-dimensional objects (like a little bird) and low-relief wall art (like masks).

Often thought of as ‘only for children’, this workshop will prove otherwise as I present an exciting insight into the world of SCULPTURE.

This workshop is ideal for Creatives (interested in expanding their repertoire to include 3D forms), Beginners (looking for a relaxing and mindful afternoon to break from routine), Teachers and Parents (wanting to pass on these skills to others). It’s also the ultimate art media for ‘affordability’, as most of the materials needed are upcycled items that can readily be found.

While the concept is rather simple, the process is quite time-consuming (and relaxing), but by the end of the session, you’ll create and decorate at least one whimsical or stylised, small 3D artwork. Plus, you’ll come away with the skills, inspiration and motivation required to create a wide variety of extra projects at home.

You’ll discover how papier-mâché is so versatile that you could create items (big and small), to give as gifts, sell at the markets or decorate your own home. During my career in schools, I’ve used papier-mâché to create items for props for Costumes and Stage Plays e.g. Caveman clubs, Royal crowns, Masks, Magical wands, Goblets etc. (I’ll explain how!)

This is one of those Art experiences that doesn’t require any previous experience or drawing skills, yet you will still develop your creativity as you explore the endless possibilities of colour, form and texture.

What’s included:

  1. All materials and equipment.
  2. Step-by-step instructions on various techniques for creating and decorating your sculpture, using found objects, natural materials, interesting papers and layered paint so you gain the know-how to create your own unique and individual effects.
  3. Organisational ideas and advice on resources you need to work on similar projects in your home studio or school.
  4. Tea/coffee and light snacks.
  5. An apron for use on the day.
  6. Relaxing Music.
  7. Lots of photos that I will share with you, upon request.
  8. Clean up – it’s all taken care of for you.
