Starehole Bay and Soar Mill Cove (rating 3 medium)
Details
This walk is a circuit of approximately 14km starting from Malborough near Salcombe. The first section of path consists of a gentle descent via Collaton valley into Salcombe at North sands. From here we head south along the coast path which is cut into the steep cliffs around Sharp tor point which offers some excellent coastal views from the rugged cliffs. The path is narrow here where it traverses shear cliffs which those uncomfortable with heights may find challenging, although some study but ugly steel railings have been installed to prevent accidents, mostly.
After rounding Bolt head we continue along the cliffs toward Soar Mill Cove. Keep an eye out for the vicious sawtooth crags and some striking rock formations that can be found along this exposed section of the coast. Soar Mill Cove is a pretty little beach where we will be stopping for a break and a little lunch.
Once we’re all fully rested we’ll embark on the final stretch. A steady ascent back to the village of Malborough where those who wish to can partake of a drink beside the fire at The Old Inn before starting the drive home.
