Princetown Pootle
Details
This is a 10-12 mile easy hike with 1200 ft of ascent and will take in 6 Tors plus Nun’s Cross, Burrator Reservoir, Foggintor Quarry and many other features. It is a mix of open moorland, which will be bracing if the weather is anything but benign, and the Burrator Arboretum , where we should see the first signs Spring foliage.
Starting in Princetown we will head south towards Nun’s Cross and then west towards Burrator where we will pick up the old Plymouth – Princetown railway line which will take us back to Princetown.
There are a couple of short cuts we can utilise if the conditions get the better of us. When we last did this we got drenched, the fog set in and we couldn't see a thing - it was a brilliant day out :-)
There are a couple of pubs in Princetown and a Café so plenty of options for a post hike drink. The route will follow well used tracks so the going will not be difficult.
Advisory note:
This is a not for profit group intended as a social event for people who share an interest in the natural world. You are responsible for your own safety and welfare so please come appropriately dressed for a long rural walk taking account of the prevailing weather conditions. Should you participate in any foraging events, it is your own responsibility to identify to your own satisfaction anything you plan to eat. Some walks may involve an additional degree of physical challenge. If so, this will be clearly stated in the description. If you then choose to participate in these activities you do so at your risk.
There is a small fee of £2 for each walk to cover costs of the meetup page which is currently £200 per year and also to cover some minor expenses incurred when reconnoitering walks, mostly fuel and a pint.
