This scenic and varied walk starts in Ivybridge. From there, we head north through the wooded valley of Longtimber Woods alongside the River Erme where there are small waterfalls and carpets of wild flowers in spring. Then we move away from the river toward the hamlet of Harford and cross Harford Bridge before we get onto the open Dartmoor moors. We’ll take a gentle ascent towards the open high ground of the moors, passing Hangershell Rock and can look back across the moors to catch amazing open views of the coast and, on a clear day, Plymouth sound. Finally, we will loop back towards the town passing the industrial heritage sites and old mill ruins near the woodland edge.

This is a moderate walk about 11km long with a couple of gentle ascents. It depends on recent weather, however the grounds is likely to be muddy and wet in places so please wear appropriate foot wear.

Feel free to bring refreshments for after the walk as we will not make a formal lunch stop on route.

Advisory note:

This is a not for profit group intended as a social event for people who share an interest in the natural world. You are responsible for your own safety and welfare so please come appropriately dressed for a long rural walk taking account of the prevailing weather conditions. Should you participate in any foraging events, it is your own responsibility to identify to your own satisfaction anything you plan to eat. Some walks may involve an additional degree of physical challenge. If so, this will be clearly stated in the description. If you then choose to participate in these activities you do so at your risk.

There is a small fee of £2 for each walk to cover costs of the meetup page which is currently £310 per year and also to cover some minor expenses incurred when reconnoitring walks, mostly fuel and a pint.
