Baldy Peak (EXPLORATORY hike)
Details
Type: Out and back
Mileage: 6 miles estimated ⛔️
Estimated time to complete: 6-8 hrs⚠️
Elevation: 2,621 ft. gain/loss)⚠️
Difficultly: hard / strenuous ⚠️
This is NOT a hike for beginners. SEASONED hikers only. Must have experience with peak and off trail hiking.
We will meet at the A.B. Cox visitor center at the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument located at the end of Dripping Springs Road. We will begin the hike at 8 am on the Dripping Springs Trail for about a mile. After that we will begin hiking off trail. I’m looking to try and discover a new way to summit Baldy Peak. There is no guarantee that we will be able to summit it. Expect steep inclines, rocky terrain, possible scrambling, loose rock, and navigating through cacti and other thorny/sharp vegetation. I would recommend wearing pants. I’m keeping this to a very small group to ensure a safe outing for everyone.
We will meet at the Kohl’s/Starbucks off Red Road on the west side at 6:30 a.m. and leave sharply at 6:45 a.m. If you are from Las Cruces, we can meet at the Circle K off University Ave and Don Roser (located off I-25) at 7:15 a.m. and leave to the trail head at 7:30 a.m.
If you need directions, feel free to DM me . This is not a dog friendly trail. There is a $5 fee that will need to be paid at the visitor center or you can use your America the beautiful national park pass.
Participants should be in good physical condition to attend this outing. Folks with an underlying medical condition should avoid moderate and strenuous outings. Participants who RSVP yes also agree to the Release of Liability statement: https://www.meetup.com/meetup-group-dWiUFgVP/about/
For safety reasons we hike together and support each-other as a group/team, with the leader in control. We stop, rest, eat, etc. together. No one will be allowed to hike ahead at any time. If you are unwilling to comply with this please do not sign up.
⚠️I reserve the right to remove any one from this hike. ⚠️
Thank You
