What we’re about

Welcome to Melbourne Mountain Biking (MMTB)! Your riding journey starts here! Open to all who love to or really want to ride a bike in the dirt/mud/sand/snow or down a mountain! Fun, Fitness and Friendship!

This group has been created for anyone interested in Mountain Biking with like -  minded people, whether you are a newbie, a fully fledged pro or somewhere in between. We aim to cater for all riders within the greater Melbourne metropolitan area and the state of Victoria.

Our Melbourne Mountain Biking group covers all types of MTB adventures including CX along trails and fire roads, single track at one of the many MTB parks located around the state, all the way up to aggressive downhill riding and everything in between. Grippy knobby tires and mostly dirt/mud are the go. Fat tires and suspension are a +. We welcome you to the dark and often dirty side of cycling.

The club caters to beginners, casual riders, fitness MTBers & experts. Those who have thought about getting into MTB but couldn't for whatever reason to seasoned riders who know all the tricks and locations. Beginners who are unsure or nervous about MTB are encouraged to join one of the short weekend Lysterfield or You Yangs social rides. These are perfect for the inexperienced and beginners as the rides are led by an experienced and patient leader who will show you around at a relaxed pace with plenty of rest breaks included. You will definitely make new friends from day 1, discover the trails and pick up some great tips on riding.

The type of rides in Melbourne Mountain Biking range from;- Beginner rides aimed at drawing more peeps into the sport who might feel nervous or may not have anyone to ride with.- Weeknight after work rides aimed at keeping fit and riding in the dark in Winter.- Weekend day rides at Lysterfield/You Yangs/Fairfield aimed at social fitness.- Exploring rail trails for leisure and intrigue.- Weekend day trips a bit further out such as Torquay, Wombat, Harcourt, Forrest, Red Hill...- Weekend getaways to favourites such as Mount Buller and Falls Creek aimed at full enjoyment of overnight trips with some seriously good muddy riding. These great places include ski lodges, mountain shuttles to the top and ski lifts.- There may even be the odd interstate or overseas trip during the summer times. Mt Kosciuszko during the Wanderlust festival is fantastic socialisation with other groups.

Melbourne Mountain Biking is a harassment free, no stress (except for exercise), welcoming environment. Its members actively encourage the 3 Fs. Fun, Fitness & Friendship. I myself am fairly easy going, open minded and approachable.

All rides require riders to have some sort of MTB. Some rides only require a general MTB where as others will require bikes more specialised to very rough unforgiving terrain. All rides will have a description of the event, the intended audience, the required bike type, fitness and technical experience levels.

I started this group for the following reasons;- To provide more variety and frequency of places to ride. I'm passionate about getting others to enjoy riding. Its so much fun and helps to heal the mind of woes.- To provide a welcoming environment for beginners and seasoned riders.- A chilled group offering the capacity to improve your riding.- To facilitate friendship among riders & growth as a fit & social person.- To provide dedicated times and places for fun or fitness or social orientated rides.- To improve my own fitness and find other riders who can introduce me to more places.

All MMTB events are free except where we need to pay others for lodging, transport, food etc. The meetup website costs me about $160 a year so a pink note donation is always well received and goes towards an end of year celebration or some other interesting event I might come up with.

Now lets get you set up as a member!

Happy riding peeps
