We'll hike the entire Little River Trail, from the trailhead in Elkmont to its end at Campsite #30, in a wide valley where more than a dozen creeks flow into the Little River (actually not so little). On our way we'll pass junctions with 4 trails: Cucumber Gap (mile 2.3), Huskey Gap (mile 2.8), Goshen Prong (mile 3.6), and Rough Creek (mile 4.5, after Campsite #24). Three creek crossings in the last half-mile can be demanding in high water.
* Total round-trip hike distance is 12.2 miles with 1200 ft total elevation gain; rated Difficult for distance.
* For more information and to register for this event, go to the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club website HERE.
* Our Difficult hikes are: 10-14+ miles and/or elevation change of 1800-2500' or more, mostly on trail, some off-trail possible. Hikers should be regularly hiking 8+ miles with continuous elevation gains of 500+ feet per mile for a sustained 2 to 5 miles (or more), at a 2.0-3.0 mph pace.
