What we’re about
Hi and WELCOME to this page. Please, read all the information provided to avoid future misunderstandings. We hope you will join this group.
This group is meant for people 55+ that want to be ACTIVE by participating in our events. Our goal is to create a group of active members to create a friendly, safe, and loving community. To create such a group, we keep our membership number small.
To that aim, I routinely remove INACTIVE members who have not participated in any events in a one year period.
It IS a GIFT to participate in events created by volunteer organizers & event hosts at no charge to our members and NOT an inherent right when joining the group. We expect our members to support the effort we put into creating free events by attending them regularly.
We discourage gossiping of other members or of any other organizers in the meetup community. Members join the group voluntarily and can remove themself if our policies do not meet their needs.
We offer a variety of activities such as hikes, kayaking, board games, music in the park, live music, art faires, theater... You are always welcome to post an event of your preference. Please, let me know if you are interested in becoming an event host.
Please, do not join this group unless you are 100% confident that you will be an ACTIVE member by at least participating on our events 6 times/year.
- Members not active within a year will be removed from the group.
- ALL members attending "house events" will be placed on the attendance "WAITLIST."
- If there is a "Waitlist," members with good attendance status and new members will have priority on all events and will be moved to the "GOING" list.
- Inactive members (those not attending events in over 6 months), members not attending events they signed up for ("No-Show), and members who frequently change their RSVP may not be eligible to attend events hosted at a member's home or public events with limited numbers of attendees.
- 6+ RSVP changes and 3 "No Shows" may result in removal from the group.
- "NO-SHOWS" refers to members NOT attending events they signed up for AND members who changed their RSVP within 48 hours of the event.
- PLEASE, be considerate and do not use our events as "place holders" while you are in the waitlist for another group.
OUR HIKES:
WE LOVE DOGS. HOWEVER, NO DOGS ALLOWED IN ANY OF OUR HIKES OR EVENTS.

OUR FINISH TIME IS AN APPROXIMATION BUT NOT A DEADLINE. MANY TIMES, WE LIKE TO GO OUT FOR LUNCH AFTER THE HIKE.
Out of respect for event hosts who spend time in planning and designing events and for members in the WAITLIST only sign up for events you read the entire information about and are pretty sure you will attend.

See all- QUICKSILVER - McABEE LOOP + COFFEE/ LUNCH at BoulevardAlmaden Quicksilver County Park (McAbee Entrance), San Jose, CA
Lets meet at Quicksilver for a beautiful 5.2 mile loop! It looks like nice weather this weekend. We'll start a little early (9AM) to beat the heat. The hike will take about 2 hours.
Note on parking: There is street parking only (no parking lot) It's easy to get a spot but you may end up parking a block or two away.
We can meet after at Boulevard coffee shop nearby. They have great coffee, pastries and a nice lunch menu.
ABOUT THE HIKE:
MILES: ABOUT 5.2 MILES
ELEVATION: AROUND 750- FT
https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/quicksilver-mcabee-entrance-e833e04?u=iHIKE DESCRIPTION:
This loop starts on the Senador Mine Trail. The trailhead near the Quicksilver Park entrance, is heavily wooded with a stream going through it that attracts wildlife, such as deer. From the trailhead, the trail follows the stream through a heavily wooded area. It then begins to gently climb, leaving the woods behind, as it emerges into grass hills. Stands of trees dot the grass hills. Views of the San Francisco South Bay unfold as one climbs. The trail flattens out at the top and then descends through more heavily wooded grass hills. The view of the heavily populated Bay Area disappears, and one is now in pristine, undeveloped territory. This is an amazing contrast in a place so close to a highly urbanized metropolis. The trail transitions to the Guadalupe Trail. The way continues through unpopulated wooded, grass hill countryside, before it then begins another moderate climb. It passes Guadalupe Reservoir as it climbs to its highest point. There, it levels out for a short while before it gradually descends along the Mine Hill Trail back to the trailhead where it started.
