What we’re about
Hi and WELCOME to this page. Please, read all the information provided to avoid future misunderstandings. We hope you will join this group.
This group is meant for people 55+ that want to be ACTIVE by participating in events that will also allow you to meet other members with similar interests.
Our goal is to create a group of supporters to create a friendly, safe, loving community. To create such a group, we keep our membership number small to represent members that are actually participating in events.
It IS a GIFT to participate in events created by volunteer organizers & event hosts at no charge to our members and NOT an inherent right when joining the group.
We discourage gossiping of other members or of any other organizers in the meetup community. Members join the group voluntarily and can remove themself if our policies do not meet their needs.
We offer a variety of activities such as hikes, kayaking, board games, music in the park, live music, art faires, theater... You are always welcome to post an event of your preference. Please, let me know if you are interested in becoming an event host.
Please, do not join this group unless you are 100% confident that you will be an ACTIVE member by at least participating on our events 6 times/year.
- Members not active within a year will be removed from the group. We start removing members in November.
- ALL members attending house events will be placed on the "Waitlist."
- If there is a "Waitlist," members with good attendance will have priority on all events followed by members with low participation.
- If there is a "Waitlist," inactive members (not attending any event in over 6+ months) may not be eligible to attend events hosted at a member's home but are welcome to attend public events (hikes, music in the park concerts, etc)
- Members who have an excess of changing their RSVP or "No Shows." "No Shows" are for members not attending events they signed up for OR changing their RSVP 24 hours (48 hours for private events such as a member's home) before the event starts. These members will be removed from the group a year after joining.
- 6+ RSVP changes and 3 "No Shows" may result in removal.
- PLEASE, be considerate and do not use our events as "place holders" while you are in the waitlist for another group.
OUR HIKES:
OUR HIKES ARE NOT INTENDED FOR HIKERS WHO LIKE TO HIKE AS A WAY OF EXERCISING.
WE HIKE TO ENJOY NATURE, THE COMPANY OF OTHER HIKERS AND TO, ALSO, EXERCISE. OUR NORMAL PACE IS 2.5-3 MILES/HOUR DEPENDING ON THE HIKE, THE TERRAIN, AND THE LEVEL OF THE MEMBERS ATTENDING.
OUR FINISH TIME IS AN APPROXIMATION BUT NOT A DEADLINE. MANY TIMES, WE LIKE TO GO OUT FOR LUNCH AFTER THE HIKE.
Out of respect for event hosts who spend time in planning and designing events and for members in the WAITLIST only sign up for events you read the entire information about and are pretty sure you will attend.

MORE ON THE BA - TWO HIKES @ SAM McDONALD: HERITAGE & OLD STAGE LOOPS + LUNCH + BEACHSam McDonald Park, Loma Mar, CA
This whole area is just amazing! After the hike(s), we will try to go to Duarte's restaurant in Pescadero but they take no reservations. HOWEVER, Pescadero is a cute little town with lots of charm and places to check AND a BEACH! If we cannot get into the restaurant, we just get a sandwich and walk to the beach (be with me on this one, never have done it before, guiney pigs we all are)
ABOUT CHARMING PESCADERO TOWNSAM McDONAL PARK is absolutely gorgeous! Redwoods everywhere! Shade, shade, shade surrounded by serene peace! You will love it!
This hike is actually two hikes together for a total grand prize of 7.5 miles with low/medium elevation. The first part of the hike is 3 miles (744 ft elevation) and takes us back to the parking area. Those who wish not to continue the remaining 4.5 miles (905 ft) can decide to stay and wait.
CARPOOLING:
Add yourself as a driver or passenger. It is important to ask if your passengers will stay fro lunch.
http://www.groupcarpool.com/t/v5mfzkPARKING FEE: $6.00
ABOUT THE HIKE:
We are kind of doing two hikes: First hike is 3.0 miles and the second one is 4.5 miles. You can hike the first one and leave or wait for us. It is a gorgeous place to be if you are waiting. Bring a book or a craft and enjoy the amazing redwoods. Who knows? Depending on how my back feels I may join you while Craig leads the second part of the hike! ( I am still working on a scarf for my granddaughter!)

ABOUT THE PARK
Sam McDonald, a unique and interesting 850-acre facility, is located approximately 3 miles west of La Honda on Pescadero Road. The park actually represents contrast between two separate natural environments. The northwesternly half, near 400 acres between Pescadero Road and Highway 84, is principally a lush growth redwood forest. The 450-acre portion, southeasterly , is primarily open ridge, grassy knolls and patchy brush areas. From this ridge area, vistas of the Butano and Skyline Ridges, and the Pacific Ocean can be seen.RESTAURANT: They take no reservations BUT if we cannot get in, we can go to the beautiful stores in Pescadero, get a sandwich and eat at the beach.
