June - On Beauty by Zadie Smith

Details

I picked a runner-up from our last poll for our June read while I finalise the poll for July to September - I’ll send it soon!

We will be reading “On Beauty” by Zadie Smith - shortlisted for the 2005 Booker Prize and listed as one of the top 100 novels of the 21st century by the New York Times, it is loosely based on Howard’s End by E. M. Forster - a previous book club read!

“This wise, hilarious novel reminds us why Zadie Smith has rocketed to literary stardom. On Beauty is the story of an interracial family living in the university town of Wellington, Massachusetts, whose misadventures in the culture wars-on both sides of the Atlantic-serve to skewer everything from family life to political correctness to the combustive collision between the personal and the political. Full of dead-on wit and relentlessly funny, this tour de force confirms Zadie Smith's reputation as a major literary talent.” (Goodreads)
