- Mystery Movie Marathon/SA Food Bank Fundraiser at The Black Potion!Black Potion San Antonio, San Antonio, TX, TX
Hello, SA Movie Lovers!
I’m very excited to announce I’ll be hosting MYSTERY MOVIE MARATHON IX benefitting the San Antonio Food Bank in the Black Potion Movie Daze Theater on JULY 19th, from 12:30p to midnight!
We’ll be screening 6 movies. Each film could be a blockbuster or an indie; a tearjerker, a terror, or a laugh riot. The only thing we’re sure of is that beyond a few hints, each title will be a mystery until we hit play.
A little background - for the past eight years, right around my birthday, I’ve gathered a bunch of friends for the Mystery Movie Marathon (MMM) – a multi-hour event where we watch movies back-to-back-to-back-to…you get the picture. A handful of fellow movie fans each brings a movie, keeping the title secret so that no one – not even yours truly – knows everything that we’ll be watching. From the family-friendly to the truly inappropriate, we’ve watched films like My Neighbor Totoro, Doc Hollywood, Vertigo, and The Royal Tenenbaums. We’ve enjoyed The Fly, Don’t Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Juice In The Hood, and Flash Gordon. We’ve laughed at Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and been shocked by The House By The Cemetery and The Human Tornado.
Last year we watched Clue, Memories of Murder, Roar!, The Muppets Take Manhattan, Hundreds of Beavers, and Renfield.A full list of MMM films from the past can be found here: https://letterboxd.com/sandman642/list/mmm-the-big-list/
Some come for just one film, some for a double-feature, and some numb their butts all afternoon and evening long. Regardless, it’s always an amazing day.
MMM is completely free to attend, but I do ask that you consider donating cash and/or food to support the San Antonio Food Bank if you’re able. Every dollar donated provides 7 meals to someone in need here in the San Antonio area.
SO – RSVP, grab some friends, some cash, and some food and come enjoy some movies!
Keep your eye on the comments for hints more info, including info on SA Food Banks' most wanted canned goods, showtimes and movie hints!
- Western Horrors - Bone Tomahawk & Ravenous at The Black Potion!Black Potion San Antonio, San Antonio, TX, TX
Starting at 6:00pm on Sunday, July 20th, The Black Potion is heading out west for a double-feature of western horrors!
6:00pm - Bone Tomahawk (2015)
8:25pm - Ravenous (1999)6:00pm – Bone Tomahawk (2015) - A slow-burning, savage tale starring Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, and Richard Jenkins. Civility meets cannibalism in this frontier rescue mission gone horribly wrong. Grit your teeth... and maybe don’t eat before.
8:25pm – Ravenous (1999) - A wickedly dark, snow-drenched blend of horror and satire with Guy Pearce, Robert Carlyle, and that unforgettable score. Manifest destiny never tasted so strange.
These are two tales of hunger and ruin on the edge of the frontier. Where law fades, the flesh betrays, and survival feeds something far worse...
I'll be at the Black Potion (1901 Fredericksburg Rd) by 5:30pm setting things up for showtime and welcoming all attendees. Come grab a cold drink and a snack out front & join me back in the theater (past the bar, down the hall, second door on the right) before showtime!
Free parking is available in front and along the side of the theater, as well as in a big lot behind the store across Lynwood Ave.
As always, Black Potion Movie Daze screenings are FREE—so grab your friends & family and come join us! Hope to see you there!!
