Hanwood Mediaeval Circuit

Details
The walk begins at Hanwood Village Hall which is 1.5 miles from the A5 on the A488 South of Shrewsbury (SY5 8JN). There is limited parking but enough for 10 to 15 cars so car-sharing is encouraged. The route is about 6 – 7 miles long and is woodland and open field paths with some minor roads and several stiles, some awkward. There are animals everywhere so dogs must be on a leash at all times. We follow the Rea Brook in many places as it winds through delightful Shropshire countryside.
The walk is figure of eight passing a mediaeval farm house site, then an old mine working and we will take a break for lunch at a delightful riverside location in the woods. The riverside walk leads to an old railway and eventually we encounter an old Roman Road aka Thieves Way. We, also, pass Cruckton Hall School aka the Fitzroy Academy.
Afterwards there is the Cock Inn just in the town centre for drinks and snacks if you so desire.
