Snailbeach Lead Mines
Details
A walk of about 5.5 to 5.75 miles. We start at Snailbeach car park; they appreciate a donation in the honesty box of about £2. There is normally lots of space for parking.
Up through the village and round the bottom of the forest trail then climbing up quite steeply through the trees. At the top, we turn left and walk towards the oldest holly trees in England to the edge of Stiperstones. There is a field here that often has cows in it; if that is not for you. There are a couple of squatters cottages at Blakemore Gate restored by English Nature in 2011 that you can have a look before we drop down back to Snailbeach. Quite a lot of the old mine buildings for you to look at before you leave.
We will stop at the top of the forest for a break - lovely views across to the Breiddens from there and call in at the Nags Head in Pontesbury on the way back for those that want to.
Respectfully request dogs to be on a lead.
Part of this walk has been featured on BBC Countryfile.
