Hikers!

As we see the rain subside this week it should make for some excellent hiking!

This hike can either be one way, or we can turn back at any point. After receiving requests we will try to always adhere to a 6 mile minimum. We are not lengthening or changing anything, I was using 5 miles as the minimum up until now.

As always if you are an active part of the group, thank you! If you have hiked, thank you. If you are part of the group and have not hiked why not. We welcome all, you do not have to have any political or ideological reason to join, we welcome everyone. Age? no problem, If you have not hiked before, we designate a member each week to make sure EVERY hiker returns with a member.

I don't know how else to ask or invite people to hike. Our group literally has everything, great people, great hikes, communication, and great members.

This week's hike will either be out and back or we will place cars on both ends. I am fine with either, but we need drivers, and we need people to get them.

8.4 mi Length (depending on the arrangement)
147 ft Elevation gain
2.5–3 hr Estimated time
Out & back

A paved and well-maintained trail on the Neuse River Trail from Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve to Buffaloe Road Athletic Park. Accessibility: There are 4 designated accessible spaces in the large partially paved parking lot off of Horse Shoe Farm Road at the north end of the trail. All of them are van-accessible with a striped access aisle.

The trail surface is paved (with railings at bridges) and smooth. It is typically at least 6 feet wide (with wider passing spaces). The entire trail is estimated to be in the mostly gentle grade category (5% or less). This trail will likely be navigable for most wheelchairs/mobility equipment or stroller users. There are benches and picnic tables along the route for resting. There are wheelchair-accessible bathrooms at the north end of the trail.
