Pierogi Rumble: ride to Polish lunch - 40km - easy/social

Details

Join us to try some delicious Polish comfort food at the Polish Club Albion.

To work up an appetite, we’ll ride about 30km on mostly roads and cycle paths, stopping for a quick walk at the beautiful Newport Lakes. You’ll need to be confident riding in a group on shared paths, cycle lanes and small suburban streets.

View or download the ride route here, or direct message me for a GPX file.

Start point will be at the Cow up a Tree sculpture in Docklands .
From there we take the Westgate Punt to Spotswood and stop for a coffee at the Duchess of Spotswood cafe courtyard on Hudson Street.

Not too far from there we will also stop to look at Newport Lakes reserve where an old quarry has been converted into a lovely, peaceful urban bushland (see main pic). We'll wander down on foot to check out the lake - cycling isn’t allowed inside the reserve.

From there over to the start of the Kororoit Creek Trail in Altona which winds past cool sculptures and pretty scenery all the way to Albion.

After lunch at the Polish Club we will ride back on cycle paths to Footscray where there are regular trains to the city.

To make the ride shorter, you could catch a VLine train from Ardeer Station to the city. Note trains aren't running on the Sunbury (Sunshine) line.

A good jacket is recommended to protect against the forecast windy conditions, and to be prepared for rain. We’ll stop to regroup along the way so bring plenty of layers to avoid getting cold on this mid winter ride : )

The Westgate Punt is card only (no cash) so keep this in mind.

About the Polish Club restaurant
This is a community volunteer run club that’s a bit of an institution in the western suburbs! They have excellent traditional Polish food and the cakes are to die for. There’s also a bar that serves coffee along with Polish beers and (if that’s your thing) vodka.
