This ride is open to financial MBTC members, and Meetup visitors who have not yet completed three introductory rides.

•What we'll do:
Explore French Island for two whole days, with two nights camping.

A trip on the Cowes-Stony Point Ferry to Tankerton on Friday afternoon, riding along the coast to camp at Fairhaven. Then we will explore French Island for two days, visiting the Redbill Creek wetlands boardwalk, the wildflower garden area of the north slopes of Mt Wellington, Bayview Chicory Farm and Cafe, French Island National Park, the Saltmine Point barge landing, with a second night camping at Chateau Baudin. Then we will visit the French Island Winery, possibly The Pinnacles for a view and the French Island Store for coffee.

The roads on the island are at best gravel, and often sandy, grass-covered, and sometimes wet and a bit boggy, so good wide tyres are very desirable. The great virtue is that there is almost ZERO traffic.

Our campsite are basic ones with tank water and a toilet, but they are close beside Westernport Bay (with a sandy beach at Fairhaven).

The distance for the weekend is only 70-80 kms, but the road conditions will make this a respectable riding effort.

A proposed route map is HERE.

Etiquette: Social pace. We wait for each other to regroup at key navigational points. No one is left behind with a puncture.
