Grampians Peaks Trail - Middle Section
Details
Having completed the Northern Section of the Grampians Peaks Trail last year, it’s time to return and continue the journey by tackling the middle section of this iconic trail.
The plan is to meet at Jimmy Creek Campground on the morning of 24 September (the day before the AFL Grand Final public holiday). From there we’ll organise a car shuffle back to Halls Gap, which is the starting point for this section of the Grampians Peaks Trail.
### 🥾 Itinerary
Day 1 – Halls Gap → Bugiga Campground
9 km – includes the iconic Pinnacle Lookout
Day 2 – Bugiga → Barri Yallug Campground
14.7 km – highlights include Mt Rosea
Day 3 – Barri Yallug → Duwal Campground
13.2 km – includes Redman’s Bluff
Day 4 – Duwal → Durd Durd Campground
14.5 km – includes Mt William, the highest point in the Grampians
Day 5 – Durd Durd → Jimmy Creek Campground
6 km – an easier final day back to the cars where we will drive back to Halls Gap for a well deserved meal before driving home.
### ⛰ What to Expect
Hiking in the Grampians is never easy, and this section includes Mt William, the highest peak in the range, so expect to be challenged. In addition spring can be changeable so you will need to be prepared for any weather, though there are shelters at each of the campsites. In return you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views, rugged landscapes, and the company of a friendly group of experienced hikers with a positive, can-do attitude.
### ⚠ Important – Book Your Campsites
If you’re keen to join, please RSVP to the event AND book the required campsites yourself via the Grampians Peaks Trail booking system:
https://bookings.parks.vic.gov.au/gpt-interactive-map-booker
There are only 10 tent platforms at each campsite, so book early to avoid disappointment.
If a campsite is fully booked, post in the event chat to see if someone is willing to share. From our experience on the northern section last year, the platforms are quite large and can often accommodate two tents.
### Campsites to Book
24 Sept – Bugiga
25 Sept – Barri Yallug
26 Sept – Duwal
27 Sept – Durd Durd

That’s it! I’m really looking forward to continuing this amazing trail and sharing another memorable Grampians adventure with you all.
