Hi,

Join us for a ride out to Blackburn starting from Bayswater, Marie Wallace Park. We will set out heading North West from Bayswater, onto the Heathmont Rail Trail - up through Heathmont and onto Ringwood. Here we'll head West and pick up the BHRRT (Box Hill to Ringwood Rail Trail) and follow all the way into Blackburn & Laburnum. Now we'll head South for a short section of the Gardiners Creek Trail into Box Hill South where we will head East and start the return leg through a mixture of quiet cycleway roads and shared used path's (Wurundjeri Walk) until we hit Strathdon House and Orchard Precinct in Forest Hill. From here we can see some of the progress being made on the new shared use path and park in the Healesville Reserve (Ngarrak Nakorang Wilamn). We can ride along the grass and dirt alongside where the new trail is going (Or there's the road option) before detouring through some housing estates before picking up the Dandy Creek Trail and return to Bayswater!

There is a small Cafe called The Jolimont @ 23.5Km into the ride where we can grab some refreshment's! Or Strathdon House is a pretty good spot to stop with a picnic bench, depending on peoples choices on the day.

I've labelled this up as an Intermediate ride for a few reason's:

1. There are more road section's in this ride than usual, they are mostly quieter back roads to avoid traffic, but it's impossible to only stick to bike path's on this ride. There will be one section on Bedford Road in Ringwood to link the two trail's. There is a cycle lane, will probably be parked cars in it though 🤦‍♂️
2. There are a couple of road crossing's, in particular we have to cross over Springvale Road. There is however a grass centre piece, and it will be Saturday morning so shouldn't be too much traffic.
3. Some of the proposed route is on grass and dirt (The section alongside the work's in progress new trail in the Healesville Reserve). It's not overly hard terrain, it's fairly flat but it is more effort than bitumen! You can always push over section's you are not comfortable with, or can drop onto the nearby road section instead!
4. There is a little more elevation than usual. Basically need to be a little bit more confident on the bike than a complete beginner for this ride.

Mostly paved surface (89%) with a little bit of gravel so suitable for most well maintained bike but not full slick road bikes

ESSENTIAL ITEMS

Spare tube, puncture kit, pump, basic tools - good to have with you.
Rain & warm gear (according to conditions)
Plenty of water for the distance especially if it's going to be hot! Always better to have too much than not enough!
Check your app for any changes the night before, and on the day of the ride, as the ride may be cancelled in the event of extreme weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
