Frequently Asked Questions:

What is West Coast Swing?

West Coast Swing is a modern and versatile partner dance with a smooth elastic look. It is extremely adaptable and can be danced to a wide variety of music, including Top 40, blues, funk, and rock and roll. Classes focus on technique, improvisation, musicality, and combining these skills to create a fun dance with each partner. You don't need a lot of experience to start having a lot of fun!

Do I need to bring a partner?

No! Social dancing is a great way to meet new people, and we rotate partners regularly so that you have a chance to dance with everyone. Of course, you are more than welcome to bring along your friends, the more the merrier!

What should I wear?

There is no need to dress up, comfortable street clothes with room to move are preferred. Pants are generally preferred to skirts or dresses for women, but wear what you feel comfortable in!

Do I need special shoes?

No! You can get dance shoes and boots for WCS, but when you are starting out you can wear almost any kind of flat shoe. Heels higher than one inch are not recommended, so if you have latin or ballroom shoes consider leaving them at home in favor of your sneakers or flats. You want shoes that you are comfortable moving in that stay on your feet well when you walk backwards, and a soft sole generally works better than a rigid one.

I have a different question!

Feel free to get in touch! We are happy to answer any questions.
