Data science for social impact: Shiny & gender poverty data case study

WhyHive is a group of data scientists and technology strategists who are passionate about using data for social impact. In this talk we'll discuss how our social enterprise came to be and some of the startup tools we use to help our work stand out for corporate and NFPs clients. We'll also explore a case study in which we've worked with the International Women's Development Agency to develop a gender poverty data dashboard for policy makers using R Shiny.

Bio:
Tess Guthrie studied pure mathematics and philosophy, worked as an analyst in the NFP sector and in business development for for-purpose organisations before starting WhyHive in 2018. Since then the team has grown to a core team of ten, and has worked with One Girl Australia, the International Women's Development Agency, She's A Crowd and hosts semesterly interns from Monash University and RMIT.

The team has a host of experience from corporate, startup and NFP spaces and we're excited to share a case study with you and meet some of Melbourne's most passionate data scientists.
