Sierra Club is the nation's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization with over 3.5 million members and supporters. The Mid-Missouri Group supports mid-Missouri and frequently holds events and outings including hiking throughout central Missouri. We are a welcoming and inclusive organization and everyone is welcome to participate. Hike Smith Creek, Cedar Creek District of Mark Twain National Forest
Rutherford Bridge Mark Twain NF, east englewood rd, Columbia, MO, USWhat: The hike covers approximately 6.1 miles; moderately difficult with water crossings, rocky terrain, 200 foot elevation gain (in places 15-25% grade). Awesomely scenic with gargantuan cliffs, amazing geologic features, and a wilderness ‘aura’.
What to Bring: sturdy hiking boots, water, lunch or snacks, hiking stick (if desired). Be prepared for variable conditions with layered clothing, wool socks, warm hats, and gloves OR raingear as the weather forecast dictates.
- Base Layer (underwear layer): wicks sweat off skin
- Middle Layer (insulating layer): retains body heat to protect you from the cold
- Outer Layer: (shell layer): protects you from the wind and rain.
Why: To experience the beauty and health benefits of trails in the vicinity of Columbia, MO; to be an advocate for our wild & scenic resources; to recreate with like-minded folks who love hiking in the Ozark Highlands.
