The Moth StorySLAM is an open-mic storytelling competition in which anyone can share a true, personal, 5-minute story on the night's theme. Sign up for a chance to tell a story or sit back and enjoy the show!
(P.S. If you are going to tell a story, make sure it is memorized, well-practiced, and UNDER 5 minutes.)The theme:
DIRT: Prepare a five-minute story about what lies beneath. Squalor, smut, muck and mire. Air out your dirty laundry and don't leave out the filthy details. Your time spent in flowerbeds, quicksand, or the pig pen. The spade sinking into gravelly ground. The muddy footprints on the pristine white carpet. X marks the spot. What will you unearth? Buried treasure, lurid gossip, or a big orange carrot. Talk dirty to us!There are many parking options located within a block of Amsterdam Bar & Hall: Lawson Ramp, Victory Ramp, Impark Lot, Treasure Island Ramp, and street parking.
- West Side Story - Inver Grove Heights Community Theater at Simley HighSimley Senior High School, Inver Grove Heights, MN
Inspired by William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, the story is set in the mid-1950s in the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City, then a multiracial, blue-collar neighborhood. The musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. The Sharks, who are recent migrants from Puerto Rico, and the Jets, who are white, vie for dominance of the neighborhood, and the police try to keep order.[1] The young protagonist, Tony, a former member of the Jets and best friend of the gang's leader, Riff, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks. The dark theme, sophisticated music, extended dance scenes, tragic love story, and focus on social problems marked a turning point in musical theatre.
