We'll discuss The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner (#29 on our list). This was his favorite novel. The Library of Congress says the book “uses the American South as a metaphor for a civilization in decline” in the post-Civil War era. The story covers the dissolution of the Compson family and their reputation over three decades. Read more here.
