What we’re about
All are welcome! Even the young, old, Virginians, and Washingtonians. Although my goal with this group is to lure out folks in their late 30's to early 50's and help remind them how to have fun outside. So if you're one of those people who has been spending too many Saturdays watching children's soccer games, sneak out and join us sometime soon. We'll even post events further afield in VA, WV, and PA, but the majority of meetups will be in Central Maryland and usually 4-8 miles in length.
This group has only four rules:
- If you sign up, show up. I will ruthlessly boot anyone who is a no-show. It only takes 6 seconds on average to change your RSVP to NO. Don't you want to give your spot to someone in dire need of fun?
- Please read the entire description before signing up for an event. I work hard to post thorough descriptions so people can be informed of both the itinerary AND the expected challenges.
- You are responsible for your own safety. This is just a group of potential new friends walking around the woods, not a professional guide service. Please come prepared with the appropriate gear and provisions to safely make it through the posted itinerary.
- Have fun! No spoilsports allowed.
Many events will be cross-posted with the warmer-season group, Paddle Something. If you've got a kayak, canoe or paddle board - check it out at: https://www.meetup.com/paddle-something/

Hike Patapsco SP - Morning Choice, Ridge and Rockburn Trail (hilly 6 miles)
Rockburn Branch Park, 6105 Rockburn Branch Park Rd., Elkridge, MD, USOur brief return to fall weather is forecasted to hit a peak on Sunday, so let's take advantage with a slightly tougher than average 6-mile hike.
We'll start this one at Rockburn Branch park and hike into Patapsco, mostly staying on the upper plateau on the Rockburn, Morning Choice and Ridge trails. The trail is well worn, though rocky in a few places. There are two relatively easy stream crossings on large-ish rocks. We will have descended about 160 feet by the four-mile mark and make that elevation up as we finish the loop and double back to the parking lot. Total distance should be about 6.2 miles and roughly 500 feet of elevation change.
Follow our route on Alltrails here.
Please arrive at the parking lot ready to go no later than 10:30, as we will do a quick round of introductions and then immediately hit the trail. We do not wait for latecomers.
Also, please recognize that while the word may have vanished from our political discourse, "Moderate" indicates the midpoint between Easy and Hard, not a synonym of either. We typically keep at least a 2.5 mph pace, though occasionally pause to regroup.
We're skipping the after-hike sweets this week since there will surely be plenty in our Christmas stockings. Instead, we will probably head to the Guinness Open Gate Brewery for lunch afterwards.15 attendees
