Weekend walk #16: Mata Pequena - Penedo do Lexim - Anços waterfall
Details
Monsanto Morning Walks goes to Mafra!
Join us for another waterfall walk - this time between the districts of Mafra and Sintra, just north of Lisbon. We will start from the small town of Cheleiros and head to the recently restored village of Mata Pequena. From there, we will head up to the Penedo do Lexim, an ancient volcanic chimney. On our way to the waterfall, we will pass into the Sintra district and through the village of Anços. After returning to the starting point, we can have lunch together at a local pizzeria before heading back to the city.
This is an moderate route with two extended (but doable) inclines. The total elevation gain is roughly 400m. Depending on the weather leading up to the date, there might be mud and/or a small creek to cross.
Please note that the group size for this walk is intentionally small to support a comfortable, familiar atmosphere. If you have secured a place but are unable to attend, please be considerate and update your RSVP at least 24 hours in advance.
If you are running late, please send me a personal message and we will try our best to wait for you. Otherwise, we will begin walking no later than 10:15 to respect everyone's time.
Distance and duration
This circular route is approximately 11km and should take roughly 3.5 hours to complete, including breaks.
Getting there
We will meet in front of the Igreja de Cheleiros, near where most bus lines disembark.
