Rapid and Blitz tournaments open to all chessplayers, beginner to master!
Rapid emphasizes strategic play and calculation, while Blitz requires quick decision-making and intuition.

Organized by Days & Knights of Monterey County.
Rapid tournament player registration 9:15-10am
3 rounds: 10:30, 1:00, 3:30
No eliminations -- everyone plays all 3 rounds.
Half-point bye(s) may be arranged at registration or requested at least 20 minutes before scheduled round.
Group portrait at 3:30pm. Awards ceremony at 5pm. Games will be played in the Community Room.
3 sections: USCF-rated Championship and Challengers, and non-rated Candidates
**Entrants to rated sections must be current members of USCF -- join or renew at uschess.org**
Championship section is limited to the top 8 entrants (including qualifiers from May 10 Challengers section).
Swiss-system pairings. Accelerated Swiss-system pairings if more than 8 players in section.
Games timed with 30 minutes per player, plus 30s increment added with each move. (G/30;+30)
Chess sets and clocks are provided.
Players must record all moves of their games on provided scoresheets or in their own scorebook.
Trophy to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each section, playoff blitz match in the event of ties.
Medals to K thru 12 students who complete their scheduled rounds.
Winners of Challengers section are eligible to compete in the July Championship section. Winners of Candidates
section must play in rated section in subsequent tournaments.
Blitz tournament player registration 5:15-6pm
8 rounds starting at 6pm, finishing around 8:30pm
1 section: USCF-rated, all entrants must be current USCF members
Games timed with 5 minutes per player, plus 2s increment added with each move. (G/5;+2)
Chess sets and clocks are provided. Games will be played outdoors at the Marina Library.
Trophies to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. Trophy to top Grades 9-12 finisher, top Grades 5-8 finisher, and top Grades K-4 finisher.
