What we’re about
The purpose of this group is to help develop a local group of people who know some pub songs and sea shanties so that the pubs and bars of Raleigh may ring with song. We can sing, you can sing, you can listen to other people sing. Come in garb, or not. Parents, bring your kids. Remember though: we will be singing drinking songs on occasion.
As for the Motley Tones, we sing madrigals for the King by day! Pub songs for the hoi polloi by night! Love songs and sailor songs all the day long (with occasional children songs so we avoid the ARRR rating!)

International Talk Like A Pirate Day is the day after this Meetup--but we are celebrating early! Come join us for a rip-roaring night of fun & singing. Dust off your shanties, bring yourselves, friends, family, musical instruments--and have some maritime fun.
This meetup is a fun, interactive opportunity to experience live music on the third Thursday of each month. It is a combination pub sing and show which helps teach pub songs and sea shanties to the multitudes and allows us to hone our performances as we enjoy our 15th season performing. We have a songbook. We are outdoors when the weather permits, indoors otherwise. We will be in pirate gear, but you can come as you are!
The pirate sing is loosely run, but typically we have a board for requests, (to sing for the group, lead a song, or have us do something). We treat it as an open rehearsal so we may also work on our numbers for an upcoming festival or try some new songs on an audience. Everyone can listen, join in, offer a song, or just drink one or more of the $5-6 beers fresh out of the brewing tanks.
Our music is a mix of a capella and accompanied music; we sing a mix of madrigals, pub songs, love songs, sing-along pub songs, sailor songs, drinking songs, and even some children's songs, just to balance things out.
Bring an instrument and join us, sing along, or just listen.
Come join us. We have fun.
